 Catwalk Garment Finished

I walked into the fabric shop and instantly three things caught my eye, the black beaded tassels, golden crisp feathers and the auburn ribbon. I painted a picture in my mind of how these three items would look in my catwalk shoot. The black beaded tassels delicately draped on the hair like a chandelier, these would represent the tassels that Native Americans wore, only with a 1920's twist inspired by the flappers. The feathers and the rest of the black beads were used to create this bra type garment which i hand stitched together to create the final touch to  my catwalk look.

Feathers in the hair!

Everything about these images has the essence of Native Americans culture,in the accessories and clothing. The feathers and tassels and bands around the head are all something i wish to portray in my final catwalk look.

!!!FLAPPER GIRLS!!!

Whilst i was looking through pictures of Native Americans hairstyles, the idea suddenly came to mind to incorporate Flappers into my catwalk look. The feathers and bands around the 1920s girls heads resemble those of the Native American decor they wear on their heads.

Film: Dances With Wolves

This is such a lovely film to watch with all the scenic views and beautiful costumes and hair and Make-up worn by the Native Americans. It was just my luck that i put on the TV at the moment this film was starting as i didn't realise what it was about but i'm so glad i watched it now as it has everything to do with my project and is very useful for referencing.

 Instantly i though Native Americans... Tassel's....FLAPPERS...BEADED TASSEL'S

I've decided i want to use beaded tassels in my catwalk look and will be featured in the hair and also accessories. I have started making this garment for my catwalk shoot which originally begun with just being covered in feathers, however now i am going to add the beaded tassels to it to represent the flapper girls but also because i am using a bra, it is fitted and still contains traces of my original idea which i use in my first Editorial shoot, the corset inspired and designed based on the 1800's and keeping in mind the film, Last of the Mohicans so i still want to keep this idea of the 1800's within the hair designs but just adding a touch of the 1920's, with the tasseled beads draped on the hair.

Final Editorial shoot

Model: Kalreece Crow
MUA/Styling and Photography: Alexia Valentina Serghiou

I am really happy with the end result of this photo shoot from the hair to make-up and also the corset i designed. I think the whole look really works well together unlike the previous shoot i did where i think the wrong makeup was used as well as the hair being styled in the completely wrong way.
These photos are simply beautiful bringing through elements of different tribal cultures.

FINAL EDITORIAL FACE TEMPLATE!

Mood board

Design and Texture board

I created this inspiration/texture board as i like to be able to feel the texture i plan to use in my work before i create my digital mood board just to help me get my ideas togethers.

Getting ready before final shoot and taking photos with hair down as an experiment.

Material Mood board

This material mood board has all the materials i have used in my corset and also contains materials and colours that  i was thinking about using.

This corset took me a total of 12 hours to complete after having to hand stitch everything together. I bought a cheap corset from Primark in which they only had a size 12-14 so i had to take it in to a size 8-10 before i could start my designs on the corset. After taking in the corset i sewed cream canvas like material onto the corset in sections. Following this i cut the corset down the middle in the front so that i could sew on eyelets to put lace though to tie up the corset. After this  i sewed on this lovely red ribbon material i found in a fabric store to cover the eyelets and also round the sides of the corsets. To finish the corset i added the feathers to the top of the corset.
